Dance Movement Psychotherapy for children and adolescents.
Dance Movement Psychotherapy is an appropriate therapy for children and young people as it engages directly with the creative process. Creative play is a main channel of children’s learning and development. Using this form of therapy can offer children a direct way to express difficult emotions or experiences in a safe, therapeutic environment.
It is also a form of therapy that can offer good results even if a child is reluctant to or unable to talk about difficult experiences. For children with social or emotional difficulties, it can provide an environment in which to learn, express and develop new adaptive social behaviours in a contained space and in a therapeutic relationship with another.
