Clare initially trained as a deep tissue massage therapist in 1996 and later qualified in fitness and sports massage. She thoroughly enjoyed working in a GP referral gym where, as well as providing fitness training, she also devised and implemented remedial exercise programmes in conjunction with physiotherapists and other medical professionals. During this time Clare developed her massage skills, often using massage to release muscles that were blocking a clients’ recovery or progress.

Clare first experienced Pilates whilst working as a physiotherapy assistant in a hospital. The team were excited about the ‘new’ exercise system that could be used as an effective tool in their rehabilitation programmes, particularly for those suffering from back pain.
During her time at the hospital Clare worked with the physiotherapists to rehabilitate a wide range of disorders from hip replacements to strokes. She also led the Parkinsons exercise class and taught a couple of elements (relating to movement) of the nursing NVQ.

Clare injured/strained her sacral iliac joint whilst playing hockey. Due to this new and permanent weakness, she experienced many manifestations in other parts of her back neck and shoulders! Pilates played an integral role in her recovery and now in maintaining her strength and flexibility and prompted her phrase ‘move well feel well’.

Qualifying as a Body Control Pilates Instructor in May 2001, Clare worked in the physiotherapy department in Baths private hospital before she taught in her home town of Frome.

Joseph Pilates said ‘it is the mind itself that builds the body’. Clare firmly believes this and thus teaches her clients to develop their body awareness so that they themselves can take responsibility for their wellbeing in their everyday lives.

Drawing on over 10 years bodywork experiences, Clare creates classes that are varied; sometimes fun and energetic, sometimes focussed and controlled, yet always safe, effective and with the individual in mind.
