Phylida’s style of massage is based on the techniques formalised by Swedish Dr Pehr Henrik Ling, who himself drew his knowledge from Tuina and other forms of ancient Chinese massage.
She combines the practical application of these massage techniques with a good deal of empathy, intuition, care and concern for the welfare of her clients. Her main concern is that you leave having enjoyed the treatment, that you feel better, and that the feeling is one that will remain with you.
Although Phylida has a very loose massage routine for the full
body treatments so that she covers most parts of the body, she tailors each
treatment to what the individual requires, often working on one area for
longer and spending less time on others.
These same techniques are mixed with classic Indian techniques to make up
her own version of an Indian head massage, addressing the areas where we
hold much of our tension, the neck and shoulders.
Phylida is fully qualified as a massage therapist, having ITEC Diplomas in Anatomy, Physiology and Holistic Massage, Indian Head Massage and an APNT Diploma in Massage and Pregnancy. She is fully insured through Embody and is a member of the Complementary Therapists Association.
During pregnancy many forms of pain relief are no longer suitable, but massage can be a powerful tool in alleviating many aches and pains, boosting a mother’s self esteem and giving her the confidence she needs to take her through her pregnancy and labour, into motherhood.
Post-natal massage can help a mother to regain her sense of ‘self’ and make her feel more on the road to ‘normal’ again. Stimulation of muscle tissue can help to loosen muscles tightened by poor posture during the pregnancy and also the hours that can be spent carrying and breastfeeding your new baby. Gentle massage can help overstretched abdominal muscles to regain their former tone.

Massage improves the functioning of all the body’s systems and thereby the rate at which the body recovers from injury and illness. It also boosts the immune system and helps prevent further illness.
Phylida offers either a deep tissue or a lighter, more relaxing massage depending on your preference, and is very happy to chop and change the ‘routine’ around to suit your requirements
