We all hold much tension and stress deep inside ourselves. It manifests itself as shallow breathing, sore muscles, scattered thoughts, mental and emotional vulnerability, frequent illness, fitful sleep, and a lack of love, energy and inspiration.
Yoga was gifted to us by some very wise people thousands of years ago to help unburden us of this heavy and unnecessary load. It reaches deep inside our body to massage muscles and caress internal organs. It nourishes joints, strengthens bones and awakens the heart. It seeks out emotional pain buried deep within our soul and gently eases it clear bringing a sense of release, followed by calm and contentment.
With this increased awareness of ourselves comes a clear and blissful understanding that, far from being a burden we carry on our shoulders, life is meaningful and good. Yoga enables us to understand and love ourselves more deeply, and therefore others.
Ben Parkes has been studying and practicing yoga for seven years. He trained
with the Traditional Yoga Association (www.traditionalyoga.org) and teaches
traditional hatha yoga to people of all abilities. He lives in Frome, Somerset,
with his partner Anne.
