Jemma has had an interest in nutrition since a young child. After her brother developed asthma, he was taken to a naturopath who advised a wholefood diet. The whole family started to eat wholefoods and their health improved. Later on, in her early twenties, she became a vegetarian and has been so ever since. Her three children were also brought up as vegetarians. However, she has never thought that a vegetarian diet is suitable for everyone and indeed it is not an integral part of Natural Nutrition.
Becoming a vegetarian in her early twenties, at a time when it was very unusual (early 1970s) meant that she had to become very inventive in her cooking as there were not a lot of vegetarian cook books available. About this time, she became interested in Astrology and learnt how to cast and interpret birth charts, gaining a Certificate in Astrological Studies.
In the late 1980s Jemma joined Herbalife and started selling their nutritional products. Later on, she joined Neways and attended many interesting meetings, where health practitioners from many disciplines gave talks. Whilst talking to customers about the benefits of the products they were using, she soon found that she was asked more and more for advice on various health issues. It was then that she decided to do a professional training in nutrition and the work of the College of Natural Nutrition was brought to her attention. The time she has spent with the College has been both fascinating and informative. The course content included Anatomy and Physiology, Nutrition and Naturopathic techniques as well as knowledge of Chinese and Western Astrology. She has seen a real turn-around in both hers and her clients’ health issues since applying Natural Nutrition principles and is currently furthering her studies with the College by attending their Advanced Practitioner’s course in Bristol.
Jemma has lived in Frome since 1985 and has three grown up children and a baby grandson. She has worked for Wessex Counselling Service for many years. Her interests include yoga, Pilates, philosophy and mysticism, as well as slow cooking and country walks. She is also a soprano in the Oakfield Choir in Frome.
