Pain is an individual, unpleasant sensory experience, which can impact on every area of life and relationship.
Mindfulness Based Physiotherapy is a holistic, multi faceted approach to living with chronic pain, be that spinal pain, fibromyalgia, arthritis or other related conditions. It combines physiotherapy pain management principles with the practice of mindfulness.
Mindfulness is the practice of bringing gentle non-judgemental awareness to our experience in the present moment. This ancient practice, which predates Buddhism, can help us to connect more deeply with our bodies, our breath, our movements and the experiences of life both for ourselves and others.
Through this practice we can learn to soften and release areas of tension and discomfort. Connection to the breath facilitates calmness; relaxation can help us to manage our pain and our reactions to it.
Treatment sessions may also include guidance to help you establish a regular pattern of exercise that draws on functional, yoga and pilates principles. Advice on activity pacing, minimising flare- ups and getting a good night’s sleep is also available.
Six to eight sessions are recommended initially, ideally on a weekly basis, complemented by daily practice at home (approx 30 minutes per day).
Sessions are on an individual basis and last for 50 minutes.
The first appointment will include a full physiotherapy assessment, which may involve the removal of outer clothing for examination.
Fees : £35 per session
