Hypnosis can be likened to a state of relaxed, focussed awareness. It is a natural state which most people experience every day, whether they realize this or not. A state of hypnosis can occur anytime a person becomes deeply relaxed or highly focussed. Examples of natural trance are daydreaming whilst driving, reading a book or watching a film. During hypnosis, you are always in control and can choose whether you want to stay in trance or not.
During hypnotherapy, positive suggestions are made to create beneficial changes in ideas or behaviour. Hypnosis makes memories more real and ideas much clearer. It can help you to heal more rapidly, to change harmful or limiting habits and to re-awaken your natural confidence and creativity. Through the use of carefully worded suggestions, a hypnotherapist can fine tune hypnosis to help you make beneficial changes in your thoughts, attitudes and behaviour.
The subconscious mind controls the involuntary functions of the body, including habits and things that we do ‘automatically’ - it is fuelled by our emotions and imagination and directs our behaviour from within. It also contains the memories of every single thing that has happened to us. It cannot be controlled by the conscious mind. However, during hypnosis the subconscious mind becomes receptive to new ideas and open to positive suggestions which helps us create the changes we want in our behaviour and encourages more sensible and balanced attitudes to reality.
Hypnotherapy programmes are designed to meet your objectives. The number of sessions needed depends on your motivation and the type of issue you are seeking help for. Often, only 3 sessions can help to make a significant difference. More sessions may be required for long-standing problems.
