Mindfulness is a way of being, and a way of paying attention to each moment, in a non-judgmental way. Once we start to turn our attention to our body, breath, thoughts, feelings, and the world around us, we often find that our relationship to our experience changes fundamentally. Mindfulness practice originated in Buddhist meditation, and has since been adapted for non-religious and therapeutic applications.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) was introduced by Jon Kabat-Zinn, followed by the development of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). Both programmes have been rigorously tested and are taught throughout the world for stress relief, pain management, anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, heart disease, etc., as well as for the promotion of general wellbeing. MBCT is recommended by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) for the prevention of recurring depression.
INTRODUCTION TO MINDFULNESS Workshop
Like music or art, mindfulness is difficult to describe and best experienced directly. An Introduction to Mindfulness workshop is an ideal way of getting a taste of mindfulness "in the moment".
During the workshop you will be given more information on mindfulness. We will practice some simple mindfulness meditation and gentle mindful movement, with clear guidance from the teacher. We will also do a few basic exercises to experience mindfulness in daily life. We will also practice short mindfulness exercises which you will be able to do for yourself in your everyday life.
You can do the Introduction to Mindfulness workshop as a stand-alone, or as an introduction before you decide whether to take part in an 8-week MBSR/MBCT course.
