Mindfulness is a way of being, and a way of paying attention to each moment, in a non-judgmental way. Once we start to turn our attention to our body, breath, thoughts, feelings, and the world around us, we often find that our relationship to our experience changes fundamentally. Mindfulness practice originated in Buddhist meditation, and has since been adapted for non-religious and therapeutic applications.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) was introduced by Jon Kabat-Zinn, followed by the development of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). Both programmes have been rigorously tested and are taught throughout the world for stress relief, pain management, anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, heart disease, etc., as well as for the promotion of general wellbeing. MBCT is recommended by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) for the prevention of recurring depression.
MINDFULNESS For Everyone and Everyday is an MBSR/MBCT-based course intended for anyone who encounters the challenges of everyday life and wishes to explore a more rewarding life, as well as for people with health issues or a history of depression.
The 8-week course consists of weekly 2-hour classes in a small group, with a day-long retreat. We learn simple mindfulness meditations and exercises to integrate mindfulness into everyday life. At home we practice the meditations each day, with the help of CD’s and a workbook provided with the course.
During the course we will explore themes such as Awareness of our body, thoughts and feelings; Dealing with difficulties; Self-acceptance; Thoughts are not facts; Taking care of ourselves; Applying what we’ve learned; and more.
